Banko-yaki Ceramic Tea Cup (L) (Sand)

Banko-yaki Ceramic Tea Cup (L) (Sand)
This Banko-yaki Ceramic Teacup is a multipurpose cup crafted from iron-rich clay. It is characterised by simple lines and a timeless, natural hue derived from mineral-rich clay. This versatile design doubles as an everyday teacup, or as a perfect accompaniment to bring out the rich qualities of matcha.
This teaware collection is produced by a ceramic studio based in Mie prefecture. Their craftsmanship is informed by the local knowledge passed down from Banko-yaki “萬古焼”, an earthenware tradition founded in the mid-Edo period. The name is derived from a seal used in original Banko-ware, which bore the words banko-fueki (meaning “an eternally unchanging life). This collection carries forward the craft values of Banko-wares, recreating the clay by purifying the local soil to form long-lasting designs in natural tones, which blends seamlessly into modern spaces.
