Our Washi Incense series is produced in Awaji Island in Hyōgo prefecture in Japan which is believed to be the birthplace of Japanese incense. It is said that when a piece of Agarwood washed up onto the shore in 595 AD, inhabitants of Awaji Island discovered its fragrant scent after burning the wood which led to the start of Japanese incense.
