Japanese Uchiwa Fans

The word Uchiwa refers to a non-folding type fan that has a fixed shape. It is believed that Uchiwa fans originated in the 1600’s when a travelling monk exchanged their knowledge of Uchiwa fan making with lodging in Marugame, Shikoku.
